Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) & Proxy Authorization - Complete Guide

Important Update - December 15th, 2025

Mangopay is implementing a mandatory update to the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) flow. All users will be required to provide expressed consent to continue using platform services.

What is SCA and Why is it Required?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a security requirement introduced under the EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2). It's a form of multi-factor authentication that requires users to verify their identity using two or more different authentication factors

Something you know (password, PIN)
Something you have (mobile phone, authentication app)
Something you are (fingerprint, face recognition)

Why is SCA Mandatory?

Since Mangopay is a regulated Electronic Money Institution (EMI), they must comply with PSD2 regulations. This means SCA is now required for all users who hold a Mangopay wallet on our platform to ensure the highest level of security for your funds.

As of December 15th, 2025, all users must provide expressed consent (Proxy Authorization) to allow our platform to operate your Mangopay wallet on your behalf. This is now a mandatory requirement to continue using platform services.

What Does Proxy Authorization Allow?

By completing the SCA Proxy consent, you authorize us to:

Update your contact information on your Mangopay account

Required when you request to update your email or phone number
Ensures your account information stays synchronized

Execute payments from your Mangopay account

For investors: Enables you to invest in projects
For borrowers: Allows you to pay and distribute loan installments to investors
Required for all platform transactions including withdrawals

Access your Mangopay account balance and transactions

Allows us to keep track and monitor transactions from the platform
Enables us to display your balance and transaction history
Required for customer support and account management

⚠️ Without providing this consent, you will not be able to:

Make investments in projects
Withdraw funds from your wallet
(For borrowers) Pay back loans or distribute installments to investors
Update your contact information
Access full platform functionality

Important: This consent is part of our Terms and Conditions. The SCA Proxy process implements the technical authorization with Mangopay as required by PSD2 regulations.

How to Complete SCA & Proxy Authorization

During New Registration

When creating a new account:

Complete your basic registration information
You'll be redirected to a secure Mangopay authentication page
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your SCA verification
Provide the mandatory expressed consent (Proxy Authorization) when prompted
Once verified, your wallet will be created and you can proceed with KYC verification

For Existing Users

If you're an existing user who hasn't completed SCA Proxy Authorization:

Log into your account
You will see a mandatory prompt to "Complete SCA Proxy Consent"
Click to start the process - this cannot be skipped
You'll be redirected to the secure Mangopay authentication page
Complete both the SCA verification and provide expressed consent for all three authorizations
Once complete, you'll have full access to your account

Alternative path:

Go to your Profile page
Navigate to Settings
Look for the "Complete Authentication" or "SCA Verification" option
Click to start the process and follow the guided steps

When SCA is Triggered

SCA verification may be required for certain high-value transactions or sensitive operations. When this happens:

You'll be automatically redirected to a secure Mangopay authentication session
Complete the required verification steps
Once verified, you'll be returned to complete your original action
